The denim edit

Categories Style

Denim will never die. Ever. From the dark wash, stiff denim of the 50’s to the acid wash of the 80’s, denim has reappeared constantly throughout the eras and generated so many memorable trends. Remember when Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake wore matching FULL denim outfits to the American Music Awards?! If not, seriously google it you won’t regret it, it pretty much sums up the denim looks of the early-2000’s. I personally am a huge denim fan, I am a lover of denim jackets and couldn’t live without a trusty pair of jeans. I feel that denim is one of those fabrics that you can really experiment with, the first piece of clothing I d.i.y’d was a pair of blue denim shorts, I bleached and distressed them and wore them too pieces, I think I still have them somewhere…

Recently, there have been a number of interesting, new takes on some classic denim pieces which I have kept my eyes on especially for this post. As denim has made a recent trend comeback, I thought that I would put together a post of all of my favourite recent denim finds and share them with you for a little spot of inspiration. So, here goes…

Asymmetric flared denim trousers – Zara

Yes, yes and YES! Coming from the mind of somebody who has always despised flares, these are beyond amazing! I don’t appreciate dark wash denim enough, so when I saw these lurking on Zara’s website, I pinned them to my wish list and have placed them in this post for some much needed appreciation. These trousers would pair so well with a plain white tee and a statement necklace, which is another of Zara’s great specialities. Plus, flares and fringed/frayed denim are SO in right now.

Top:  Sequin Mermaid Oversized Fit Jacket by Kuccia – Topshop        Bottom: MOTO Large Sequin Jacket – Topshop

I NEED these! If you know me at all, you will know that I adore all things sparkly and glitzy, so these two denim jackets immediately caught my attention. When you wear one of these, the sun light will hit you and you’ll literally turn into a giant disco ball.  Denim jackets are super versatile and can be worn in multiple ways, so these would add just a touch more sparkle to an everyday look (which is always needed).

Denim Patch Tunic Dress – Lazy Oaf

Pink is my favourite colour right now, I have been trying to incorporate as much pink as I possibly can in to my daily outfits (without looking silly) and i am loving it. The above pink denim dress is the love of my life right now! Lazy Oaf is one of my favourite fashion brands, I love their cute but unique and rebellious style and this dress is so representative of that – which is why I adore it. Distressed denim is so on-trend right now, I love it when there is heavy fraying and holes cut into denim as I feel it makes the the item look SO much more interesting.

Two-tone Mini Skirt – Urban Outfitters

I was doing a spot of online shopping at Urban Outfitters (even though I really shouldn’t be but shhh..) and I found this super cute two-tone denim skirt. How perfect is this for Summer? I know I am thinking about this way too early, but I need to prep for the holidays and I just thought that this skirt would look so cute with a loose fitting, backless top!

Dungaree shorts – Tommy Hilfiger

These dungarees + that crop top = Dream combo.  I LOVE this look, dungarees are so perfect for lazy people like me as you don’t really need to put any effort into choosing what to wear with them, just stick on a t-shirt and some Converse’s to pair and Bob’s your uncle. At £120 though… I could be pushing my bank account over the edge…better get saving hehe!

Dungaree dress – House of Holland X Lee Denim

Henry Holland has a special place in my heart, his designs are so quirky and amazing and I just love them! This denim dress is just one of his adorable designs, isn’t this Hello print just the cutest thing? I am yet to purchase a dungaree dress, maybe this could be the one! Let me know what you guys think of this dress, do you love it or hate it?!

Shredded Jeans with Rose Sequin Patches – One Above Another

Hello sparkly sequin paradise?! Okay, that rose sequin detailing is everything. You could wear something as simple as a white t-shirt and still stand out in a crowd, these are such a statement piece. I suppose if you had enough time, you could probably d.i.y these… actually nooope, I am WAY too lazy for that!

This list could genuinely go on forever as denim is one of my favourite things to wear, I am constantly adding new things to my wish lists so these items are just a select few (I have a big ol’ wish list haha!). I hope you enjoyed this post as much as I enjoyed making it, did you love any of the items that I mentioned? What is your favourite denim item in your wardrobe?
